Peruvian industrial conglomerate Grupo Gloria announced plans to invest $217 million toward upgrading production at its Yura cement plant near Arequipa. The plant currently has a cement production capacity of 3.5 million metric tons annually and the upgrade is expected to double production by 2016.
The expansion will include the installation of a new clinker production line with a 4,500-tpd cement mill, and new bagging, pallet and loading equipment purchased from Germany. Construction is set to start later this year, with the mill scheduled for completion by mid-2014, and the new clinker line ready by the end of 2016.
The project will generate more than 3,000 direct jobs and more than 9,000 indirect jobs.
